February 14, 2019 (Atlanta, GA) – Georgia Bio, the state’s life science trade association, named GCMI and Rambam Medical Center 2019 Phoenix Award winners. Part of the Georgia Bio’s annual Golden Helix Award program, the Phoenix Award recognizes leaders who have forged academic and industry relationships that will drive translation, leading to new treatments and cures. This award is sponsored by the Metro Atlanta Chamber

In October 2018, GCMI and Rambam Medical Center formally launched an accelerator for Israeli-based companies to bring their medical technologies to Atlanta and the US market. Rambam Medical Center is a state medical institution housing 36 hospitalization departments, 45 medical and diagnostic units, 10 institutes, and 6 laboratories, and is the largest multidisciplinary treatment and diagnostic center in the northern region of Israel.

“Bringing together Israeli-based Rambam and Atlanta-based GCMI strategically extends metro Atlanta’s outreach to global markets that excel in innovation, particularly in one of our region’s core strengths – the healthcare ecosystem,” said Jorge Fernandez, VP Economic Development Global Commerce at the Metro Atlanta Chamber in a press release.

“This year’s winners showcase the best in innovation and leadership in our community working to improve patients’ lives,” said Maria Thacker Goethe, Acting President and CEO, Georgia Bio.

“We are the U.S. proving ground for global medical innovation,” says Tiffany Wilson, GCMI CEO. “Our mission is to accelerate the speed and capital efficiency with which new medical devices and products are brought to market and patient care. Our accelerator partnership with Rambam will help ensure time and money are used wisely throughout the evaluation, design, development and U.S. FDA approval process for Israeli concepts and products with strong addressable markets.”

The 2019 cohort of Golden Helix Award winners will be recognized during the Georgia Bio 30th Anniversary Gala & Annual Golden Helix Awards on Friday, February 8 at the Hyatt at Villa Christina in Atlanta.
